BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 28th, 2025 – The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) extends heartfelt gratitude to the many taxpayers who have already responded positively to our first tax reminder regarding income earned through short-term rental platforms. Your cooperation is essential in fostering a compliant and transparent tax environment that supports our nation’s development.

As a reminder, individuals offering accommodations through platforms such as Airbnb, Expedia, Booking, Vrbo, TripAdvisor, HomeToGo, Kayak, and similar services are required to declare income earned from these rentals in accordance with the Value Added Tax (VAT) Act, Cap 18.47 and the Island Enhancement Fund Act (IEF), Cap 20.51.

To further support property owners in meeting these requirements, we are pleased to offer a voluntary registration period until February 28, 2025. This initiative allows you to register your rental activities and settle all applicable back taxes for the past two years without interest and penalties. By taking this proactive step, you will not only fulfill your tax obligations but also contribute to enhancing our island’s infrastructure and tourism resources.

After the deadline of February 28, 2025, the Department will utilize all measures provided under the VAT Act and IEF Act to ensure compliance. We strongly encourage those yet to register to seize this opportunity to regularize their operations and avoid potential penalties.

For assistance with the registration process, our dedicated team is ready to guide you every step of the way. Please contact us via the phone or email information provided below to ensure a smooth and hassle-free process. We thank all taxpayers for their ongoing support and compliance, which are critical to our collective success. Together, we are building a stronger, more sustainable future for our community.

Thank you for your commitment to supporting our island’s growth and development.
